When I do not know the Spanish word I often say '¿que decir in Español?' - it seems to do the trick and I get a response....but shouldI be saying something more formal or is there a better way to ask this question??

A better way to say it is: ¿Cómo se dice en español _____?(fill in the Englsh word)

Sorry if I confused you. I have only been learning Spanish for a few months -
