This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for January 2, 2010

sencillo (adjective) — simple. Look up sencillo in the dictionary

Ésta es la forma más sencilla de hacerlo.
This is the easiest way to do it.

Mi decoraciones de navideña fueron muy sencillos este año. No tenía tiempo ni dinero para más.

Simple also.

En Chile también significa "change" = "dinero suelto", "monedas chicas", "suelto" etc.

Can you give some examples in sentences of those Chilean usages? Thanks!

Está "sencilla" un sinónimo de "fácil"?

Yes. I forgot to mention that one. Just as easy = simple in English.

¿Traes sencillo para comprar el diario?

Tengo un billete de cien, ¿me lo cambias por algunos de a veinte y sencillo?

In the last phrase, sencillo can be singles and some coins.

Siempre en Chile.
Dónde se hacen pagos como cuenta del agua, luz, gas y teléfono; en las cajas de los correos, como en los hypermarkets y bencineras y negocios por el estilo, ponen un cartel: "Pagar con sencillo, por favor". Significa que si se tiene que pagar una cuenta de 10CLP no se pague con un billete de 1.000CLP.
