Zika virus
This virus has been in the news lately so I wonder if ZIKA has a translation (such as SIDA for AIDS) or is only a medical term in itself

If you check the etymology, the answer is simple. Zika, as opposed to HIV, refers to a geographical locationn. Therefore it is likely to be the same in English as in Spanish,

The name "Zika" is not an acronym but refers to the Zika Forest in Uganda.
el zika (common noun) = illness caused by Zika virus el virus del Zika = the Zika virus la fiebre del Zika = Zika fever |
