Con ganas

Hola, hi everyone,

i have been trying to translate an english song in to spanish (i have found this an excellent way to learn, revise and experiment) and am trying to translate the following line:

"Well it feels like something you want so bad "

My frist thought was: "bueno parece que es algo que quieres tanto"

but then i wondered if i could also say:

"bueno parece que es algo que quieres con ganas"

which i thought might translate as:

"well it seems that it is something you want so eagerly "

i am trying to see if i can convey the same meaning with a sublte change of vocab, does it work? or am i way off the mark?

ps i have used parecer and not sentir as the context of the song isnt shown properly in the sentence i copied and pasted.

Psid

Your alternative with "con ganas" is slightly colloquial, but correct.

A side note on the use of "tanto/tan". English speakers tend to overuse it instead of "mucho" and "muy".
If you say "es algo que quieres tanto", your sentence sounds fragmentary, because the Spanish ear is waiting for the result of wanting something so much. As if in English you said "this is something you want so bad that". (--That... what?)

- Es algo que me gusta tanto, que no puedo vivir si no lo tengo.
It's something I like so much, that I cannot live if I don't have it.

- Es algo que me gusta mucho.
It's something I like very much.

- Esa máquina es tan ruidosa, que no me deja dormir.
That machine is so noisy, that it won't let me sleep.

- ¡Esa máquina es muy ruidosa! / ¡Qué ruidosa es esa máquina!
That machine is so noisy!
