Issues in Literary Criticism

For a course, if both names are correct, do you agree with my explanations?

-John is a French major, studying Issues in Literary Criticism this term.(in=inside)
-John is a French major, studying Issues on Literary Criticism this term.(on=about)

Almost no difference in meaning.

in (IN REGARDS TO) literary criticism.

Issues on literary criticism seems wrong to me.

These words should not be capitalized unless it is the title of a course, but in this case you wouldn't be studying but taking.

Thank you. How about this:

-John is a French major, taking Special Topic in Literary Criticism this term.
-John is a French major, taking Special Topic on Literary Criticism this term.

If both correct, what's the difference? In=inside/on=about?
