All verb tenses in Spanish
Hey everyone!
I am currently trying to get an overall picture of conjugation in Castilian/Spanish―simply for knowledge and fun . I've gathered a tentative list of the distinct types of verbal inflections (which is basically a copy of what I can gather on onoma.es). The majority are very familiar, and a few have fallen out of current use. (this can perhaps also be used as a reference for anyone on the forum) Las formas impersonales (5)
Las formas personales del modo indicativo (10)
Las formas personales del modo subjuntivo (6)
Las formas personales del modo imperativo (1)
*in Castilian/Spanish, the conditional case is very often categorized as a tense under the indicative mood, however it is occasionally treated as its own grammatical mood **the subjunctive imperfect preterit has two variations, for both the simple and compound conjugations (e.g. 'viviera : viviese', 'hubiera vivido : hubiese vidido') TBH I enjoy how this is organized. The simple tenses line up nicely with the compound tenses, where the auxiliary verb haber conjugates in that simple tense. If the above is correct, then so far that brings us to a grand total of 22! (17 personal forms) Hmm... I don't believe the above is complete. Should we consider the imperative mood to have two cases (i.e. imperativo afirmativo, negativo)? Also, maybe we should include the progressive/continuous tenses, since technically they too are distinct verbal inflections, no? Last edited by Hiperbólico; October 25, 2015 at 09:42 PM. |
