"Ejercitarse" can be a synonym of "hacer ejercicio" as well.
"Me ejercito muchísimo. Ahora mis pantorrillas son fuertes como toros".

Has anyone heard of the term canilla? I believe in Spanish it means shin.

In Chile canilla means shin, and pera means chin. (yo tengo la pera partida)

Canilla is the tibia, and the front of the bone, i.e. the part that's most likely to get kicked (the shin) is called espinilla.
