Shelf in dictionary

Hola a todos, I just registered because I have a question about the word shelf. There are several translations for it in the dictionary, http://www.tomisimo.org/dictionary/s..._english/shelf but I'm not clear on how to say what I want to say.

What I need to say is a shelf, like a bookshelf, but not for books, that has like five shelves on it and goes from floor to ceiling. THanks for your help.

Re: Shelf in dictionary

If it is to put things on it, it's a "estantería".

Re: Shelf in dictionary

Thanks atnbueno! Can you use "armario" too? Since I put up the first post, I found the word armario, and just wanted to ask if it's ok too. Gracias.

Re: Shelf in dictionary

No. "Armario" is mostly translated as "closet". It can be some other things in particular contexts, but never "shelf".

Re: Shelf in dictionary

I've often heard the work anaquel for shelf. Not sure if it's only used in Mexico or in other areas as well.

Re: Shelf in dictionary

Wow. You're right. "Anaquel" is also valid for shelf, although I haven't heard it in use for a really long time.
