Question It hits you right between the eyes

I understand this expression as when you refer to some piece of art, (a poem, a speech, a painting... a video) that really affects you profoundly, and really touches your heart...

Is that a correct interpretation?

Or is it something like it hits you on your "forefront" and/or your "brain" and you get it, having a total realization, and/or understanding of the matter at hand?

And... what would be the best translation?

Te pega de lleno donde más te duele...?
Te llega al alma...?
Te hace ver la realidad...?
Esto te pega un zambombazo...?
Esto da en el blanco...?

It reminds me the pun on the baseball... (or soccer ball...)
I was wondering why the ball was looking bigger and bigger...
and then it hit me!

But all puns aside, your input will be greatly appreciated!

Rusty has a spectacular aura aboutRusty has a spectacular aura about
Used literally: to hit someone between the eyes
Used figuratively: to impress, to surprise, or to become apparent

The artist's use of subtle hues and stark contrasts hits you between the eyes. (impressive)
The grand opening of our store hit the competition right between the eyes. (complete surprise)
... and then it hit me (between the eyes) = ... and then it became apparent (and then I realized)

The figurative sense of complete surprise has a synonym: to knock the socks off of someone (to knock someone's socks off)

No se trata de cerebro como mente, es un metáfora de un misil lanzado con puntería excelente que da en el blanco.

Thanks a lot to both of you, Rusty and Pjt33!

(I was expecting an answer on these lines, so it didn't knock the socks off of me, but it is appreciated, anyhow)
