"voy a limpiar/clenear la carpeta" meaning "I'm going to clean the carpet"

Yo entendí esa frase a la perfección!

Pero es cierto lo que dijo Redbeard......la parte norte de Mexico tiene mucha influencia del inglés Americano.....asi que Carpet = carpeta..... clean = clinear. Pero recuerda que no es "proper English"

Hi everyone!
This whole thread is very interesting, fascinating...the history as well as the different dialects/accents. My fiance has told me that the Argentinian accent, particularly, is very beautiful to listen to. One example being "yo" pronounced "sho" or "zho". Does anyone know of a movie which features this accent? I really enjoyed Pan's Labrinth and Volver, I found the diffferent accents interesting- from Spain, right?

That's also found in lunfardo in Argentina. I don't think that has to do with English influence, so I don't think that most of those examples are Spanglish, per se. Do you know the etymology of those expressions?

The letter "s" in particular either becomes like the English "h" or is even dropped completely

Does that come from Andalucian Spanish originally?

In these countries you'll also encounter "vos" used for "tú", and probably used with different verb endings than you'll find in your grammar book

It's the same as the vosotros forms given in books minus the "i" (sois > sos), and minus the -d in imperatives.

I personally don't know of any movies with the different pronunciation of "yo", but there are quite a few Argentine movies out there, and they should all have that accent.

Es cierto que fue "el troca", pero no puedo recordar el contexto.

Sorry I haven't checked back in for awhile. I decided to solely concentrate on building my vocabulary and now I finally feel more motivated to get into the other aspects of learning Spanish.
