El más vs lo más. Lo mismo vs el mismo

Hola mis amigos.

Tengo una duda. He leído y he escuchado varias veces los usos de "lo mismo, el mismo, lo más, y el más" pero no sé cuando debo utilizar uno y no el otro. ¿Existe una regla para diferenciar entre los dos? Es que, entiendo bien cuando lo leo, pero me confundo cuando intento escribirlo.

el mismo = the same (insert a trailing noun)
lo mismo = the same thing

el más importante = the most important (insert a trailing noun)
lo más importante = the most important thing

Use the neuter article with ideas. Use the definite articles with nouns.

Eso no es lo mismo. = That (some idea that has already been established) isn't the same thing.
Pensábamos lo mismo. = We were thinking about the same thing (an idea).

Hablamos el mismo idioma. = We speak the same language (an object).
He visto la misma cosa. = I've seen the same thing (an object).

Eso no es lo más importante. = That (some idea) isn't the most important thing.
Ese no fue el más importante examen de mi vida. = That (object) wasn't the most important test of my life.
