I thought vacaciones only came in plural. Can anyone give examples of singular use?

You are right, the word Vacaciones is in singular way, I never have heard the use of the word Vacacion on my country, but I feel that the use of the word Vacacion sound very strange and I don't find sence in some sentence, then I think the unit way to use the word is as Vacaciones, only such the word cans be used.

My attempt with the use of Vacacion although sound very weir.

Vacación is readily found in any Spanish dictionary, in its singular form. It is rarely used in the singular form (some people would say that it never appears in its singular form), but it is used. Here are just some examples from the Internet.
