De dónde narices

I'm nearly sure it means: how the hell/where the hell
Is this a common expression?

Right, Poli.

¿De dónde narices...? = ¿de dónde diablos/demonios/cuernos/caramba(s)...?

This "narices"/"diablos"/"demonios"/"cuernos"/"caramba(s)" etc., can be used to angrily and almost impolitely emphasize questions:

Haha that is pretty funny! I'm going to tell my teacher: ¿Qué diablos haces? when she gives the class homework next time. She will most likely laugh. My spanish class has a nice sense of humor, I'm sure she won't mind.
