King's Speech/ Discurso del rey

Is the double meaning lost in the Spanish translation of the title?

Speech significa discurso. Discurso no sólo es una exposición al público, sino también un mensaje (no necesariamente público). Tal vez vayan por ahí los tiros.

O también podría ser que como se ve que el rey era tartamudo, no sé si la tartamudez tiene algo que ver con "speech.

En fin, a ver si alguien lo aclara.

@Irmamar is right. Speech can be el habla and also el discurso. The film is about his problems with a stutter, so the Spanish title does not reflect that. But the climax of the film is the King's speech to the nation on the outbreak of war in 1939. In the UK, a speech from the monarch to the nation is a very rare and important event (except on Christmas Day ).

To make the Spanish title even less correct, the King's Speech is usually 'discurso pronunciado por el monarca en que se detallan los planes del Gobierno' which is delivered to both Houses of Parliament at the beginning of the legislative year. One year this was November 5th, but I'm off topic.......

That is proof of how difficult translation can be. Spanish and English are two very similar languages. Even I can speak them both---more or less, but these two fundamentally similar languages sometimes do not translate(especially when homonynms play a role as they often do in English)

A propósito:
Sosia y Irma en inglés decimos : What is the double meaning?

OK, thanks. We distinguish between:

¿Cuál es el doble significado? (where can I found it in a sentence?)
and
¿Qué es el doble significado? (what's the meaning of "double meaning")

That's why we used "which".

Curiosities.

Pues lo que ha dicho Poli - las dificultades de la traducción.

"Which is the double meaning?" sería "¿Cuál (de algunas opciones que están claras ya por el contexto) es ..."
