¿"Coger" es un problema?
In Mexico "coger" is probably not a good word to use.
I'm going to grab a bite to eat. Quick! Grab that chicken. Lo que es la mejor substitución por "coger" para usar en México. Cualquier otro pensamiento en el sujeto.

Use agarrar algo in México for the meaning in your 'chicken' example - physically catching hold of (grabbing) something with your hands.
'Catching a bus' is idiomatic in English and in Spanish. You should use 'agarrar el/un bus' in México where 'coger' would be used in other regions. 'Grabbing a bite to eat' is idiomatic in English, especially when it means 'stopping to eat somewhere'. The Spanish equivalent is 'comer algo' or 'comprar algo para comer'. If you want to say that you're only going to take a bite of something or eat only a little because you're in a hurry or not that hungry, you can use 'tomar un bocado' or 'picar algo', respectively. |

If 'grabbing a bite to eat' means 'stopping to eat somewhere', it is said "parar para comer", a least in Argentina. I suppose 'detenerse a comer' is more common elsewhere.

Just you so know, "coger" is acceptable (non vulgar) daily speech in Colombia, used in a lot of normal everyday contexts.

Parar para comer is Ok in Spain too.
