I'd translate totopos as corn chips. The can be triangular or circular.

I've personally never seen totopos in the U.S. They are described here. Is this an accurate description?
In the U.S., we have corn chips and we have tortilla chips. Both are usually fried (there is a healthy baked version). Frito-Lay makes corn chips. They are described here. Tortilla chips are described here. Besides triangular and circular shapes of different sizes, they also come in a scoop shape. Nachos are made using tortilla chips. |

Well here in my part of the woods, tortilla chips in a Mexican restaurant are just tortillas that are cut up in rectangular shapes and deep fried. Served with Pico de Gallo fresco or different types of sauces.
Fritos and others make corn chips which are in no way comparable to tortilla chips from a restaurant. Tortilla chips are totopos. The others are "munchies".

The description I read made it sound like 'totopos', at least the authentic ones, were thicker and dryer than what we normally call tortilla chips. But it was hard to tell for sure.

I would say that corn chips are thicker and drier than tortilla chips. Tortilla chips tend to be thinner and with a nice "crunch" to them whereas the corn chips, personally, have a dry crunch.
I guess it is all up to personal perference.

Mi novia y yo fuimos a 'La Fiesta Mexicana' ayer.
