Correr con la cuenta
Hi,
...insistió en correr con la cuenta... From the context, it looks like on the house (this happens in a bar, the subject is the owner), but the Context Reverso sounds like he's never heard of it. Am I too clever ? |

From my web searches, it looks like correr con la cuenta means "to take responsbility for something" or "bear the cost of something". In the context of being at a bar in the US, a possible equivalent might be "run a tab": that is, instead of paying the bartender immediately after ordering something, ask the bartender to keep a running total of everything you order, and when you are ready to leave you will pay the full amount you owe as well as tip the bartender.

In this context, "correr" means to take care of something.
The person is insisting on paying for the other person. If it hadn't been the owner of the bar, they would still be taking care of the bill. - El que corrió con los gastos del envío fui yo. I was the one who bore the shipping cost. - La escuela corre con la responsabilidad de cuidar a los niños. The school has the responsibility of taking care of the children. - Son las madres las que corren con todo en la casa. It's the mothers the ones who take care of everything in the house. Edit: Wrholt beat me to reply, but I'm sure an answer agreeing with him won't harm.
