Huevo Alteño
Any idea what huevo alteño means? I saw this on a box of eggs, and I wonder what it might be referring to.

I believe it means that the eggs are from a certain region of Mexico, perhaps Los Altos de Jalisco.

Most probably it is how the eggs are prepared and not where they are from.
Huevos al albañil are eggs prepared in green chile salsa. Huevos rancheros also have green chile salsa but have fried tortillas underneath and also cheese on top of the salsa..... Making me hungry!!

Was this a reply to huevo alteño or huevos de albañil? I ask because huevo alteño (in the singular) was on the outside of a box of raw eggs making me think it was more like a brand name of eggs.

There are also famous people that are known by that name. This is why I thought it meant a particular area/region/place. There's a place in Bolivia or Columbia (I can't remember which right now) that is called Alteño. I believe I actually found alteño being used to describe someone/something from Los Altos de Jalisco. It's logical to assume that any place higher than another can be named Los Altos and anyone from Los Altos could be called an alteño. |

I just came across some whose last name is Alteño. This confirms what Rusty suspects that it's a brand name or the last name of the proprietor of the establishment.

Yes, it seem not a name of a person, if not, it's more well a name of a establishment. you are right.
