Eydie Gorme
Hi,
I am somewhere between a beginner and intermediate level of Spanish. Learning by translating song lyrics can be a real fun but sometimes I cannot translate it with my knowledge. The song Y... sung by magnificent Eydie Gorme goes like this: Y pensar que en mi vida fuiste flama, y el caudal de mi gloria fuiste tú, y llegué a quererte con el alma, y hoy me mata de tristeza tu actitud. Y a que debo dime entonces tu abandono, y en que ruta tu promesa se perdió, y si dices la verdad yo te perdono, y te llevo en mi recuerdo junto a Dios. I would appreciate any help with the two passages in red. I simply don't understand what she is trying to say. Thanks! |

Thanks poli!
y el caudal de mi gloria fuiste tú, = All that I counted on was you Is this an idiom? Because the literate meaning is quite different. |

It's not an idiom, but it's too hard to make it fit in English the way it is constructed.
"And you meant everything to me" might be also an approach. He's so glorious, that she can't have anything/anyone else.
