To knock an idea around.
(I believe, you use this expression in English when you are discussing an idea... not totally sure if applies when you are just thinking about the idea...) (Let's see what other more authoritative English-speaking forum members have to say...)
Maybe "to play with an idea" may apply.
"To toy with an idea" ("Dar vueltas a una idea" or "acariciar una idea"/ "barajar una idea")

Right - perhaps can include thinking something over, as in "to roll it (an idea) around in your head"?

Ah, that is a good one...

I'll take the weekend to mull it over = Me tomaré el fin de semana para pensármelo /para darle vueltas a la idea/reflexionar, meditar...
