The Verb "To Train"

Your colleague is speaking Spanglish. You're right, unless that training consist in workshops involving fire or earthquake drills, first-aid or anything like those.

Your colleague is de origen mexicano (if born in Mexico) or de ascendencia mexicana (if born in the States and of Mexican descent). Cualquier mexicano es americano por definición .

Thanks, aleCcowaN. I’ll now add workshops to my usage of “entrenar.”

I used the term “Mexican-American” because that is the term that came to mind since it is so highly used in the southwestern region of the United States where I live. We tend to hyphenate a nationality along with the word “American” a lot: Irish-American, Italian-American, etc. However, I will use your suggestions when speaking/writing Spanish from now on.

I appreciate your help and all the nuances you point out to make my Spanish better.
