El que no hacía una salsa...

Hola!

Tengo el siguiente contexto:

"Me fui a la cocina, y me quedé viendo visiones. Cinco o seis hombres con delantal y cocinando. El que no hacía una salsa vigilaba unas cazuelas y el que no preparaba unas ensaladas."

La ultima oraciόn me parece incomprensible. Me da la impresión de que sea incompleta ¿Acaso puede aydarme entender qué quiere decir?

Las oraciones están completas.



Es cierto que en el uso común, se esperaría "y el que no preparaba unas ensaladas, hacía la sopa" o algo similar. Pero como la construcción implica que todos estaban haciendo algo en la cocina, "el que no hacía una salsa" se aplica por extensión a aquéllos que o bien vigilaban unas cazuelas o bien preparaban unas ensaladas (y hasta el que no se menciona, que hacía la sopa).

Por cuestión de estilo, yo habría dicho "el que no hacía una salsa, vigilaba cazuelas y el que no, preparaba ensalada(s)"

A veces es válido ahorrarse unas comas, pero es verdad que aquí el sentido se vuelve confuso.
