Has my Spanish improved?
I sent this to a friend, and wanted your opinions.
Estoy bien, gracias, ¿y tú? Mí PC estaba roto, así no he estado en el youtube mucho. Pensé que podría hablar contigo otra vez también, así puedo mejorar mi español. Estudio cada día, pero no es suficiente para mí. Por cierto, estuve en España en enero, y encontré muchas personas que con hablo en el facebook meses más tarde. ¿Tienes el facebook aún? Si lo tienes, me puedes añadir si te gustaría. Un salud cordial. I'm sure there are mistakes.....but surely it's better than 1 year ago when I could barely speak or understand anything.. |

Yes, it has improved a whole lot.
Although you have some little mistakes I am not going to correct, because I am at work. |

I can't tell if it has improved because I don't know what it was like before. I can say, though, that what you wrote despite some mistakes is perfectly understandable.. I'll make a few corrections, ok? Quote:

Well, last year, my Spanish was AWFUL. I have been working very hard on it for a while. Some day I want to be a translator, so I want it to be perfect.

Just for the sake of "standard" Spanish: "Roto", in the sense of a machine that has stopped working, wouldn't be understood in Mexico (where we would rather say "descompuesto"), so a word that might be better understood mostly everywhere is "averiado".
And yes, your Spanish has improved. Congratulations!

Tengo un amigo de España que dijo usar "roto." Aunque ponderé tu sugestión próxima vez cuando quiero decir "broken" en español otra vez.
¿Puedes explicarme las correcciones, por favor? No los entiendo muy bien. Lo siento. En inglés también claramente. Last edited by Esperar; May 13, 2011 at 02:03 AM. |

así que = You must put "que" after "así" when meaning "so" conocí a muchas personas = the verb "to meet" has several translations in Spanish. "Encontrarse con.." is one of them, but when it's the first time you meet someone "conocer a" must be used. con las que = 'que con hablo' doesn't mean anything. The correct sentence is "con las que hablo" or "con quienes hablo" (either one is correct). empecé a hablar = In your sentence this sounds better. "Start talking" = I started talking on facebook months later" (if that's what you meant to say). You don't use the possessive with 'Youtube' or 'Facebook' in English; in Spanish either. Un saludo cordial = "Salud" means "health". I hope it's clear now..

"Aunque tomaré en cuenta tu sugerencia la próxima vez que quiera decir ..." "Ponderaré" implies some complex evaluation process; "sugestión" implies hypnotic powers or something similar, no matter what the dictionary says, because in Spanish "sugestión" is pretty related to manipulation and it's far from any form of advice.
