The key to determining whether or not....

Hola,

Querría traducir la oracion:

Tengo:

"La clave para saber si el modo subjuntivo debería usado [o no ?] es de determinar si haya un elemento de subjetividad en la oración"

El diccionario Oxford da "si... o no" para decir "whether or not", sin embargo creo que no tenga el "sonido" correcto cuando hay mucho distancia entre "si" y "o no". Quisiera saber si hay otra manera de decirla... O quisás esta oración está bien.

I'd go with,

"La clave para saber si el modo subjuntivo debería usarse o no es determinar si hay un elemento de subjetividad en la oración"

Or,
"La clave para saber si se debería usar o no el modo subjuntivo es determinar si hay un elemento de subjetividad en la oración".

También se puede decir bien con "distancia",

"La clave para saber si se debería usar el modo subjuntivo o no es determinar si hay un elemento de subjetividad en la oración".

Las 3 opciones (y otras) que te doy son válidas.

De acuerdo, en la siguiente oración:

Sería correcto de decir:
"No se si o no el médico prohibirá que fume." [?]

As I noted above (with the commas) it would work.

Probably more naturally,

"No sé si el médico [me] prohibirá que fume o no."

"No sé si el médico me prohibirá fumar o me dejará [hacerlo]."

Sí, creí que debería ser un mejor manera de decirla. Ahora tengo algunos modelos para expressar esta idea.
