Aprovecha mañana

Hi,

– Aprovecha mañana para lavar también la alfombra de la sala –le dijo a
Eréndira–, que no ha visto el sol desde los tiempos del ruido.
.

The verb aprovechar has a lot of meanings. Many of them seem to be applicable here, and that's the problem

How does the speaker sound (neutral, scornful, amicable)? What would be the correct translation?

It's a matter context, but aprovechar, in this case means to take advantage (of your time) tomorrow to clean the carpet. The tone of the speaker would indicate whether it's scornful, neuttral or amicable.

The written context is ambiguos It can be any of that, plus hypocritical.

This is a saying that most likely originated in Colombia. Nowadays, it means "a long time ago." Originally, it referenced a specific event that occurred in Bogotá, el 9 de marzo de 1687.

"Aprovechar para hacer algo" means that you will take advantage of a situation. For example, if you're not working tomorrow, you can clean the carpet that really needs it.
The meaning of the construction is always the same, but the intention of giving such an order is the one that is expressed by the tone.

- Voy a aprovechar que voy a la tienda para pasar a saludar a mi vecina.
Since I'm going to the store, I'll also go and say hello to my neighbor.

- Aprovecha que todavía es temprano para ir a hacer ejercicio.
It's still early, you can still go exercise yourself.
