Can you correct these for me please?

I'm sorry for (what I did) the other day.
Lo siento por el otro día.

My spanish is not very good. I read it better than I speak it.
Mi español no es muy bien. Lo leo mejor que lo hablo.

Thank you for your suggestions. I'm not sure about the differences between them though. Which would be best if I want to tell a friend I'm sorry because I saw her somewhere but didn't have a chance to say hi?

Any choice would be fine... if it's a friend and not a big offense, you can say something like "disculpa por lo del otro día; no tuve oportunidad de acercarme a saludarte".
