Como se dice "car"?
I've got to solve this once and for all. There has been countless family disputes over the correct way to say "car". I hear that "carro" is just tex-mex, and "automovil" isn't used that often.
Oh, and if it helps any, I do live in southern Texas. I'm not sure if that dialect changes much or if it even matters . Gracias! |

Lengua popular Tex-Mex
Car = Carro (ranfla) Truck = Troca Español popular Mexicano Car = auto (automovil) truck = camioneta regular truck..not 18 wheeler or anything like that. But I don't know what they call a car in Spain or the Antilles or South America, though. Elaina |

In Mexico:
car: coche, auto, carro pickup truck: camioneta, camioneta tipo pickup van: camioneta truck: camión semi truck: trailer bus: camión, autobús Coche is probably the best all-around way to say car that is common and understood everywhere.

Spain like Tomisimo, but we do not use carro. Carro is for a carriage.
And bus is only autobús. saludos |

Es bueno saberlo, gracias. Camión is very common for bus, and bus station is even the central camionera.

In Argentina, I'm told, auto is the most often used term for cars.

In Spain it was coche. In Latin America it was carro. I was never in Argentina, so I don't know about auto. By the way, on one of my first trips to Latin America I said something to someone about a "coche" and he thought it was quite funny. After that I always used carro when I was down there.
