Pidimos que nos diera lo que nos hacía falta y que nos lo solucionara.

In English the modal verb "would" has multiple uses; they are expressed with different verb tenses in Spanish. In your sentence, you are expressing a request for someone else to do something; the request is expressed using a subjunctive. Because the verb of requsting is imperfect indicative, we use the imperfect subjunctive for the request.
