Do you think the best word for eavesdrop in Spanish is atisbar?
Dictionaries don't seem to be helpful with this word.

I don't believe it, 'cause eavesdrog here in my contry meaning Fisgonear to somebody.
What do you think about it.?

Si, Crotalito, pero me parece que fisgonear para significar eavesdrop es regional, y quisiera saber si fisgonear tiene el mismo significado en otros paises en latinoamérica El diccionario de Tomísimo está de acuerdo contigo, pero cuando investigué más en RAE, fisgonear significa oler como los perros sabuesos (buscar una cosa por la nariz). Fisgonear cuando significa eavesdrop es figurativo (parecido a nosey o snoop en inglés).

El diccionario que uso yo dice que eavesdrop se traduce por escuchar a escondidas o escuchar a hurtadillas.

Yes, but escuchar is a respectable thing to do. Eavesdropping is
a trespass and has very negative connotations.

I know, but in Spanish you have to guess from the context, because there's no better translation for to eavesdrop.Well, there is escuchar a escondidas, fisgonear, husmear... but you don't use them with this meaning.

Of course not, at least I don't use eavesdrog as astibar, good, I don't use that word (astibar) in really, it either, I didn't meet him.
