Trascavo or trascabo

I'd like to know the correct spelling of this word. I can't seem to find it in any of my paper dictionaries, which makes me think its usage is limited to Mexico, where I have heard it. Internet searches indicate that trascabo is used on a slightly more frequent basis. Trascabo is used to for both backhoe and front-end loader.

Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this.

I don't think your word in Mexico for a backhoe and a front-end loader is universal (but not entirely limited to Mexico). I found retroexcavadora and pala cargadora (de ataque frontal), respectively, for the two machines.

As far as the local word there in Mexico, I would say trascavo is the better spelling, since the word might have come from 'atrás' and 'cavar', but the spellers on the internet lean toward trascabo. ¡Aguas! Trascabo is Spanish for stumble.

I had never heard before of trascabo nor of trascavo.
I agree with what Rusty said. As we use excavadora for such a machine, its proper spelling seems to be trascavo. It could be an apocope of trascavadora.
