El gobierno federal creó un programa de ayuda a los pobres, para paliar los efectos de la crisis económica.
The Federal Government created a program to help the poor, in order to mitigate the effects of the economic crisis.

Los medicamentos que me dieron no son suficientes para paliar el dolor.
The medication I've been given is not enough to relieve the pain.

La ayuda internacional no es suficiente para paliar la hambruna.
The international aid is not enough to alleviate the famine.
