Y es lo más correcto. Renta = ingresos.

Lo que pasa que por lo menos en Chile, la oración completa es "Declaración de impuestos a la renta"

Same in English.

The initial question should've been "Did you file your income taxes?" Generally is just "Did you file your taxes?"

Aquí es "declaración de impuestos sobre la renta", pero no son los únicos impuestos que se ponen en una declaración.

También se declaran los impuestos que ya han sido pagados, como el impuesto al valor agregado (sobre el consumo de bienes y servicios), y algunos otros, dependiendo de la actividad que se realice y si es uno un contribuyente individual o una empresa.

Did you filed the taxes this year?

Here on Mexico at least here you pay more than in U.S.A and after we the Mexican people say that we are poor for the kind to government and the economic.

I don't understand the "declaración de impuestos sobre la renta" ... does the word "renta" mean rent as in what you pay for rent? Or what you receive as rental income.

¿Porqué se le llama renta a los ingresos?

En España la palabra renta significa ingreso y los que entendemos por renta aquí en USA es alquiler, ¿si?

Here in mexico renta has both meanings, "ingreso" as well as "alquiler".
According to RAE:

renta.
(Del lat. reddita, infl. por vendita).
1. f. Utilidad o beneficio que rinde anualmente algo, o lo que de ello se cobra.
2. f. Aquello que paga en dinero o en frutos un arrendatario.
3. f. Ingreso, caudal, aumento de la riqueza de una persona.
4. f. Deuda del Estado o títulos que la representan.
5. f. Der. En materia tributaria, importe neto de los rendimientos.

'Like alx said, it means both.

If you ask anybody here in the States lo que significa vivir de las rentas, un montón de gente sabrá exactamente a que se refiere.

Bueno, en España "haces la declaración sobre la renta".
También, 'presentar' como dice Angélica.
- Did you file your 2010 Income Tax?
- ¿Ha presentado/presentó ud. su declaración sobre la renta correspondiente al 2010?
- If you didn't then please state the reason you don't have to file.
- Si no es así, exponga la razón por la que no tuvo que hacerlo [or, no tuvo que presentarla/no la presentó.].
Por lo demás, de acuerdo con todos los demás. (Y si lo que escribo está de más, pues perdonen...)

Moliner tiene dos buenas definiciones de renta
4 Econ. Conjunto de todos los ingresos que percibe una persona o empresa: ‘Impuesto sobre la renta’.
y
Renta per cápita. Econ. La que se obtiene de dividir la «renta nacional» por el número de habitantes de un país.

Pero renta no sólo significa ingresos (en salario o en especie), sino cualquier bien que te produzca un beneficio, aunque no sea monetario. Por ejemplo, en la declaración de la renta, la vivienda habitual te grava y no te produce un beneficio económico (más bien al contrario, te ocasiona gastos); sin embargo se habla de "rendimientos de capital inmobiliario".
