Darse bien/se me da mejor...

I know that it means I am good at/ or I am better at. I suspect that this isn't used much in Latin America. Am I right? If so, how would you say this in the Americas?

"Dársele bien/mejor algo a alguien" is a common expression. It's more often found as simply "dársele /no dársele algo a alguien".

- Se me da (bien) el dibujo. -> I'm good at drawing.
- Cocinar no se me da. -> I'm not good at cooking.
-> You're pretty good at math, but you're far better at physics.
- En esta casa no se nos da el orden. -> In this house we're definitely not orderly.
- ¿Qué tal se te dan los acertijos? -> Are you good at solving puzzles?

Angelica,

I don't like my daughter dating that boy. We don't know what bad habits he may have.
-Yo soy honesto. No tengo mañas ni soy mala persona.
I'm honest. I have no malice and I'm not a bad person.
-Cuidado con ese tipo. Tiene muchas mañas para jugar billar.
Be careful with that guy. He cheats when playing pool.

-> I've made some efforts, and everything I cook is horrible, or it's simply in my nature to hate cooking.
- No tengo maña para la cocina. -> It's difficult for me, and I think it might be easier if I had better skills. This may mean that I wish to be a better cook or I assume I'm too lazy to learn.
