Why is "provocaron" used here?
I have the following:
"Sus pensamientos se encontraban y rehuían de sí, y todo se le antojaba increíblemente complicado. Atrás, casi inexistentes, quedaban los días en los que él y su hermana habían tenido que cruzar media España para embarcarse en el viaje que debía suponer un nuevo comienzo en sus vidas. Pero todo había cambiado. Sus aspiraciones habían sido barridas por los sentimientos que provocaron la joven de la fiesta, a la que había sido incapaz de olvidar y la que había puesto su mundo patas arriba. En los últimos días apenas había comido y pasaba las horas yendo de un lado a otro del barco, esperanzado de hallar a la joven, que parecía haberse esfumado." I don't understand why "provocaron" is used instead of "provocó". It's very clear from this story that it is the singular, young girl who is provoking the feelings. Is this just a mistake? |

You are right: it should be "provocó".
The subject is the young woman, the person who provoked these feelings, not the feelings themselves.
