Cuerdo
This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for December 4, 2009
cuerdo (adjective) — sane, sensible, wise, prudent. Look up cuerdo in the dictionary Ese pobre no está cuerdo. That poor man is insane. / That poor man isn't in his right mind. De cuerdo y loco todos tenemos un poco. We're all a little crazy in one way or another. Un cuerdo consejo ... Some prudent advice ...

Una persona cuerda no conduce un carro mientras está nievada. Pero hoy es el único día que puedo ir a la tienda. Supongo que no estoy cuerda.

If I say 'no soy cuerdo' would that not mean 'I am not sensible' ?

If you said "no soy cuerdo" I would correct you immediately I guess you mean "soy una persona cuerda" Don't ask me about the difference if you add "persona" and change the verb. I don't know. In Spain we say "ser una persona cuerda" (sensible, prudent, not mad) y "estar cuerdo" (not mad). Maybe in other countries "ser cuerdo" is used |
