Reja

This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for June 3, 2009

reja (feminine noun (la)) — grating, grid, gridiron, grille, bars. Look up reja in the dictionary

¿De qué sirve una reja en la ventana cuando no pones seguro a la puerta?
What good are the bars on the window when you don't lock the door?

Cuando alguien está en la cárcel, se dice que está "entre rejas". No sé si esta expresión se usa en inglés.

Cuando traduzco "entre rejas" a inglés, me da la imagen de hombres gordos atascados entre las rejas.
