By popular demand

I heard on the radio debido a demanda popular. It seems too literal a translation of "by popular demand" but I can't think of an alternative. Is there one?

Here "por demanda popular" means a group of people who is outraged and demanding to set things straight. "A pedido del público" is usual for those situations.
