Estar un poco verde

Shakespeare mentions it in The Merchant of Venice when Portia states: "How all the other passions fleet to air, as doubtful thoughts and rash embraced despair and shuddering fear and green-eyed jealousy!" (wiki )

In some cultures, green eyes have been associated with the devil... but that's different from the skin colour one gets when being in a bad mood.

¡Qué raro! Nunca jamás he pensado en eso, pero siempre asumía que es porque el dinero es verde . Pero sólo en los EEUU por eso no tengo razón

Perhaps you are confusing cause and effect - the US notes were printed green because of the association with envy.
