Should Spanish be declared the official 2nd language of the U.S.?

Spanish is the 2nd most spoken language in the U.S. Why not delclare it officially so?
Whose stopping us doing so?

I'm not a US constitutional lawyer, but I believe you'd need a constitutional amendment to introduce an official language. That's possible, but requires a lot of political capital per se. Then you have to take into account the costs: states without many Spanish-speaking residents would probably want federal funding for translation of documents and language training of all their administrative staff.

Es verdad lo que tu dices amigo. However if we are a forum that promotes Spanish you would think that there would be more enthusiasm for promoting Spanish in the U.S.

So let's put it another way. If you had the power would you make Spanish the official 2nd language of the U.S.? Here in California there is a push to do so.
