Bisagra

This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for June 2, 2008

bisagra -feminine noun (la), hinge. Look up bisagra in the dictionary

La gente a la que más le molesta una bisagra que rechina es la que menos ganas de ponerle aceite tiene.
The people who are most annoyed by a squeaky hinge are the least likely to oil it.

I cannot think of any interesting expressions with bisagra in Spanish. The only related word that comes to my mind is the English unhinged (crazy, nuts...)

Try desquisiado. It's the closest thing in Spanish to unhinged.

How do you say in english "partido bisagra"?
Not so common in America (you only have two and a half ), but it's very common here.
It's a little political party who asociates with a bigger one to give advantages.

Iris, solo quiero utilizar esta ocasión para corregirle porque yo nunca he visto ningun error in su inglés, y no sé si habrá otra oportunidad para ayudarle en alguna manera:

- I'm improving my Spanish in no way in this forum.

pero tiene el sentido más enfático como

- In no way am I improving my Spanish in this forum.

You misunderstood my meaning. I meant a lot. It was an emphatic use of no way...I should probably have said in a big way. Thanks for your correction.

With the most profound respect, Iris, that sentence doesn't make any sense, at least not to my American ears.

You are totally right. Anyway, I meant I'm learning lots of new Spanish words. Cheers.
