Trenza
This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for June 19, 2008
trenza -feminine noun (la), braid. Look up trenza in the dictionary Le hice trenzas a mi hija y se ve muy bonita. I braided my daughter's hair and she looks very nice.

Another word for braid is plait, is it only British?

Plait is certainly not used in the USA, Rapunzel. Braid, yes. Plait, no.

Pleats (aka plaits) are folds in cloth, specifically in skirts or dresses.

They´re not exactly the same thing,
![]() plaited or weaved hair ![]() braids, I think Americans say weave instead of plait. ![]()

In my family older African Americans refer to braids as plaits, but I've only heard it used in the southern states (USA).
