Me place vs me gusta

¿Cuál es la diferencia entre ellos?

Son iguales cuando quieren decir "agradar".

"Me place mucho haberte visto" = "Me gusta mucho haberte visto".

me place/me placen
te place/te placen
etc...

Sometimes misreading happens: agradar is not agrandar.

Me alegra haberte visto.
Me complace haberte visto.

me gusta ... = I like ...
me place ... = .... pleases me

English "to please" becomes Spanish "agradar", "complacer" and "placer". The last one keeps the link with "pleasure" so it may sound a bit lubricious if not used well, therefore people tend to avoid it unless certain formality takes away any hint of dissipation.

I a nutshell, "placer" keeps the sensual gratification, and "complacer" keeps the more persistent satisfaction. "Agradar" has to do with likings, the same as "gustar" but they are not 100% synonyms.
