Yo tampoco lo entiendo. En todo caso, al ver tu pregunta, se me ocurre:

Dijo: "se fue".

Do you need to know if the end of the word or phrase the word is with capital letter?
Then I can suggesting you, you use the word without capital letter.

It's my point.

If you needed capital letter then you should to write the phrase of the follow form.

Dijo. Se fue.

To using a point.

Well, I would do it closer to what Irmamar suggested, as in,

Dijo: "Se fue".
I would I-cap "Se" as it is a quotation of what he said. In English,
He said: "He [she or it] left."

(If that is your original question. If otherwise, please clarify!)

Yes the quote is closer in the Irmamar's answer.

He could to write the sentence with " " then it tend to be more correct.
Inclusive if you in-focus the sentence as there is wrote is more probable that is more grammatically correct.

Dijo "Se fue".

Therefore I agree with the Irmamar's answer that answer was very accurate.

Probablemente tendría que ser un guión largo, pero lo correcto quizás sería usar dos puntos, como sugirió Irma.

¿Tienes algún otro ejemplo o mayor contexto para ilustrar exactamente lo que quieres saber?

I've never seen that use of a hyphen in Spanish.

Irmamar gave the correct answer in post #3.
Dijo: "Se fue".

Thank you very much

¿Es lo mismo así?

Se fue--dijo./"Se fue", dijo.

Perdón, aquí te doy el contexto:

Un diálogo entre tres personajes.

¿Cambia algo si termina con "!"?

"¡Vete!" dijeron./"¡Vete!--dijeron.="Leave!" they said.

Gracias
