Dónde es vs dónde está
Hi,
Dónde es is used when the location of some activity is in question, they say. ¿Dónde es la reunión? Is it really so? |

¿Dónde es? la reunion translates to English as, where is the meeting being held? In English, you can leave out the, being held, but if it can be added, and it makes sense, ser can be used as the to be verb.
It's a fine point. In the great majority of cases where location is indicated, the verb estar is used.

Always use 'ser' when speaking of an event.
Always use 'estar' when the location is the topic of discussion. |
