An idiom is an expression whose meaning is not readily apparent based on the individual words in the expression. This forum is dedicated to discussing idioms and other sayings.

Various English idioms

 Someone contacted me wanting help with several idioms and phrases in English. I'll post them here, along with my answers in the hopes that some of you might be able to offer better explanations than I can.

This is someone who is just starting to learn English. 
 Una persona se puso en contacto conmigo, deseando ayuda con unos modismos y frases en inglés. Los pondré en este mensaje, junto con mis respuestas, con el deseo de que algunos más puedan ofrecer mejores explicaciones que yo.

Esta persona está apenas empezando a aprender inglés.

 Frase  Traducción literal  Significado 
 Everything is up in the air.  Todo está arriba en el aire.  Todo está por ver. Todo está por decidir. 
 It's like an oven in here.  Está como un horno aquí adentro.  Está haciendo mucho calor aquí adentro. 
 I'm a little on edge.  Estoy sobre el borde/orilla.  Estoy un poco nervioso/ansioso/preocupado. 
 I have my heart set on.  Tengo mi corazón puesto en ello.  Lo deseo con todo mi corazón. 
 I'm a night owl.  Soy un buho de la noche.  Me gusta [o tengo que] quedarme despierto hasta muy tarde en la noche. 
 I don't care, It's 6 of one half dozen of the other.  Me es igual/No me importa, son seis de uno y media docena del otro.  No me

importa, son iguales. 
 Have you booked you hotel yet?    ¿Has confirmado tu habitación en el hotel? 
 Have you ben ready?    No estoy seguro de lo que se está tratando de decir con esta frase.
