Reconocer

- ¿No me reconoces? ¡Soy tu tío Luis! - Fui a ver a mi abuelo al asilo, pero no me reconoció.

Oh. So it really does translate, but the principal meanings switch. In case native Spanish speakers are unaware of it, unlike its Spanish equivalent, recognize primarily means sonarse.

"Sonar", without the "se" in the end. The general formula is "sonarle algo a alguien".
Attention: "Sonarse" (at least in Mexican Spanish) has two specific meanings: to blow up your nose, and (much more colloquially) to beat someone.

Algo así como darle un sopla mocos a alguien?

Sí, pero repetidamente: Darle un soplamocos a alguien es darle un golpe, mientras que sonárselo es darle una paliza.
Seguramente son expresiones emparentadas.
