En inglés casual suele significar relajado, informal. Hace un poco tiempo
alguien dijo en los foros que casual en español tiene otro significado.
En inglés podemos decir casual friends. Significa una amistad ligera. Me dijo que en español amigos casuales significa amigos fatales. ¿Es cierto lo que me dijio?

En México no. Para mí un amigo "fatal" es uno que no cumple con ser realmente un amigo... no puedes contar con él cuando lo necesitas, no te llama, no es leal...

A una persona con la que hablas de cuando en cuando y que no es propiamente un amigo cercano, yo le diría "conocido(a)".

Something like:

-- ¿La mujer que saludaste en el centro comercial es tu amiga? (Is the woman you greeted in the mall your friend?)
-- No, sólo es una conocida. Fuimos juntas a la escuela. (No, she's just a casual friend. (?) We went to school together.)

Amistad casual = acquaintance.
