Hasta no

Estoy completamente confundida con la siguiente frase "tiró los pedazos por la borda hasta no estar bien cierto de que ya nunca nadie los encontraría de nuevo..." El "no" me parece error de imprenta.
Qué piensan uds ?

No es un error, sino un énfasis.

Es igual que decir "hasta que estuvo seguro".

Muy interesante . énfasis con "no" Es eso que yo entendía pero no estaba segura usarlo sin su nota. Gracias Angelica .

I'm agree with Angelica's answer the word no is a affirmation about the structure of the word.

If you don't place the not word, the you are doing the contrary of the phrase, then you there would be affirming to be doing and not doing something.
