El diva
¿Se dice "el" diva o siempre se dice "la" diva?
Ana es una diva. Miguel es un diva. Gracias de antemano. |

In Spanish, 'diva' is a feminine noun (albeit mistakes can be found on the internet). The word is never used to represent a male performer, as far as I know.

I'm not sure how it works in Spanish, but calling someone a real diva (either male or female) in English is a put down. It indicates that they are very demanding and spoiled. It's like the older term prima ballerina. Perhaps your quote is from someone who normally speaks English, and is incorporating English usage in Spanish.

"El divo", but it is often used in a pejorative way so you have to be careful that your real intention gets through.
"Miguel está en divo" is a gpod example of pejorative use ("estar en + noun" means to behave as if what that noun implies is true)

Thanks, guys. The term is taken from a Spanish newspaper article, describing Madonna. I was just wondering if a masculine version of this term existed in Spanish. Thanks for all your help.
