If you have a basic knowkedge of Latin, learning French, Italian, Romanian, Portuguese etc. is much more easier than if you haven't. Even if you don't study those languages you will be able to make a sensible guess if you ever have to understand people who speak them. If you are interested in the Middle Age History of Europe you will not be able to make any investigation if you don't know Latin. If you are interested in the Law History you will have to know Latin to understand the Roman and the Medieval Laws. If you want to make an research about the Renaissance you probably will have to read many documents in Latin...
